The reason for small groups? Jesus demonstrated small group life with His twelve disciples. That is our best model for how He carried out His earthly ministry, and the necessity of the same. Jesus choose to keep His inner circle small. We see in the following Scripture a wonderful example of a small group lived in its simplest form:
“Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach” –Mark: 314
What is a small group leader?
The role of our small group leader is one of serving and encouraging women within the group to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known to others. As a servant leader, she is concerned about the needs and interests of others, on an individual basis. A small group leader is not domineering. To the contrary, she is encouraging and strives for the participation all members. The goal is to enable members to deepen their faith and commitment to passionately pursue Jesus Christ. Therefore, she is also there to assist in their walk with Christ, their growth and personal study of God’s Word. While members may seek a lengthy dependence upon the small group leader, the objective is that they depend upon the Lord!
As potential group leaders begin to sense God leading them to step out in that role, they should also know they can trust His ability to equip and help them accomplish the task. HE IS ABLE!
